Genti Korini will represent Albania at the 61st Venice Art Biennale with his project “A Place in the Sun.” The jury—composed of Adela Demetja, Katerina Gregos, Blanche de Lestrange, Elian Stefa and Arnisa Zeqo—selected this project as the most convincing among the 17 applications accepted through the open call, for the following reasons: “The project stands out for the depth of its conceptual framework and the precision of its visual execution. By intertwining archival research, folklore and imagination, Korini explores how collective memory and ideology shape identity and space, weaving connections between Albania’s past and its intersections with the Soviet Union. The jury appreciated the creative revival of local visual archives through an absurdist and Eastern perspective, as well as his multidimensional and experimental approach to history. Developed in collaboration with curator Małgorzata Ludwisiak, the project offers a rich visual and intellectual dialogue, in communication with Polish experimental theater.” We wish the artist much success in the realization of the project and eagerly look forward to the presentation of Albania’s pavilion in Venice next May!
