Paris Honors Ismail Kadare with a Commemorative Plaque on Boulevard Saint-Michel. The Paris City Council has made a historic decision to honor the great Albanian writer Ismail Kadare by installing a commemorative plaque at 63 Boulevard Saint-Michel — the address where Kadare and his family lived for many years, and where he created some of the most beautiful works of his literature. The decision was unanimously approved by the Paris City Council as a living and moving tribute to the giant of Albanian letters and, through him, to Albanian culture. Ismail Kadare passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 88. He is considered one of the greatest authors of contemporary European literature and the most prominent figure of 20th-century Albanian literature. Among his best-known works are The General of the Dead Army, Chronicle in Stone, Broken April, The Palace of Dreams, and The Concert at the End of Winter.
